Faces and Hearts:
Guys, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your attendance at our tango seminar…truly it will stand as one of the greatest experiences of my life…I think I shall always remember your faces and your hearts and your smiles…as I think back to each of you, I can see your eyes and intuit your hearts, your hopes, your dreams, your need for love, for affirmation, the child in you, the grandfather in you, your fears, your doubts…in summary, all that is the composite of a human being….you have enriched my heart and my life .
Many moments come to mind but I shall cite just a few. I remember the gentle voice and nature of Guri when he gave me a hand painted candle holder which he and Sabina had painted. It was wrapped in delicate pastel paper; their souls were wrapped around it… I remember Cristina’s shy, contemplative soul and her downward glance as she gave me a pamphlet of the Japanese sword show to which she had invited me to …I remember that moment when Viorel said to me “I feel better after having contemplated your advise on love” …I remember the brilliance and perspicacity of Horia and him insisting on paying for my coffee…about Nora, besides how she elongated her right leg, I remember her intelligence an good nature at Starbucks and her eagerness to help…I remember Bogdan’s unsual capacity to concentrate…I remember Cristina and Cristi’s beautiful family and I remember Teodora’s eyes and holding her while I was teaching…I remember sensing immediately Ishvan’s noble nature and dancing with his wife Cristina and Ingrid still inside of her…and what could I possibily say about Melitta; her personality is truly a gift from God..I remember Ioana’s magnificent figure and her tasteful dress and the fish and chips she shared with me at Marty’s….I remember Andrei being transformed before my eyes in only one week…I remember Andreea’s eyes which reveal a painfully sensitive soul..I remember Paula’s smile, the squeeze of her hand and the pizza at her house for which she generously paid for…I remember what a beautiful couple Gabriela and Sergiu are and how good they look dancing together…I remember Claudia’s smile and her concentration on the backward walk…I remember Liviu’s attention to detail in his perfect walk…I remember Radu’s elegance and his generous words of appreciation for my teaching…I remember the love between Renata and Ion (negative and positive ion)…I remember Ligia’s pretty face and the colors she wore and how well she moved…I remember dancing with Iuliana and thinking “WOW!
A Perfect City:
A note about your city…it is one of the best places to live in the world…it is just the right size, you have very little crime, people still have respect the rules in a society that makes us all live better….you have symphony and opera and art and you have people who are cultured and inspired but most of all you have people who are just “good” and who care….you know, taxi drivers somehow always express the nature of a city…Laura and I met many taxi drivers in the week that I was there and two especially come to mind; one whom we called “Strauss” because he always had classical music on. He had a white beard and his conversation was gentle and caring. On one other occasion, we met a relatively young driver . While we waited for Laura outside of Tortuga we talked. He shared his great concern for the people who suffer in this new world; the people who are cold and hungry and who have little hope…I offered him a sizable tip as somehow an expression of my appreciation for his caring, “no, no” he said “it is too much”
A Little Prayer:
Returning home on Whizz air with the fluffy white clouds bellow and the brilliant blues sky above, with the distant buzz of the engines and the occasional swaying of the plane I was alone on a row of seats. Seeing all this before me, I said a little prayer “thank you God, I am the luckiest man in the world”
